He is given the name Slayer by the wolves in the World of Dreams because he kills them on sight. He can change at will between either person in the World of Dreams, which he can enter at will.

He met Isam and in a way we don't understand or know anything at all about was merged with him to become Slayer. Gitara Moroso who was the advisor to the Queen of Andor at the time(she's later the Keeper who had the Foretelling of Rand being born on Dragonmount) told Luc to seek his fortune in the Blight. The other person is Luc Mantear, brother of Tigraine(Rand's mother) and thus Rand's uncle. Which is somewhat funny because the Gholam, who had direct orders to not draw any attention towards himself, still caused more uproar than Slayer who, other than Perrin, almost no one even knows about.Slayer is a being containing two merged souls: Isam Mandragoran, Lan's cousin, who survived the fall of Malkier and fled into the Blight, watched his mother be killed by Trollocs, and grew up there.

The Gholam has a more straightforward presence in his hunt for Mat, while comparatively, it sometimes almost seems as if Slayer has been forgotten. I don't think he was underutilized by the Shadow, rather that he was deliberately kept a secret, a knife in the shadow that was supposed to appear in that one critical moment in Shayol Ghul, and not reveal himself to Rand earlier.īut he definitely feels a bit underutilized by the author because so much of what he does happens offscreen and isn't explained or only hinted at. So Slayer was kinda busy building up a secret army while also being ordered to do other things by the Forsaken. There's the theory that he was responsible for the creation of a new era of Darkhounds with all his killings of wolves, the ones that could only be killed by balefire.
